Laser Hair Equipment: Are They All The Same?

Nowadays, unwanted hair issues are easily managed. Thanks to the great minds that created laser technology and merged into the science of beauty. Laser Hair Removal continues to extend its popularity to men and women who wanted nothing but to get those disturbing hair patches removed. A variety of machines have been made available both for home use and for clinic use. It is best that you get to know these machines before you get in contact with them.

Before knowing the machines you'll soon be working with for beauty's sake, be sure that you know what skin category you belong:

Type I - pale white skin; blue/hazel eyes; blond/red hair; freckles or albino

Type II - fair skin; blue eyes

Type III - darker white skin (e.g. darker Caucasians, European mix)

Type IV - light brown skin (e.g. Mediterranean, European, Asian, Hispanic, American and Indian)

Type V - brown skin (e.g. Hispanics, Afro-American, Middle Eastern)

Type VI - dark brown; black skin (e.g. Afro-American, African, Middle Eastern)

Got your skin category? Let's start picking your equipment.

Ruby Laser Machines

The oldest LHR equipment, and is best suited those with fair and white skin. This type of laser can emit up to 694 nm wavelength of light. Relatively pain-free and is suited for skin types I and II.

IPL Laser Hair Removal

This type of equipment uses pulse light technology and delivers many wavelengths of light at different depth levels. It emits 590 - 1200 nm of light and can assure you hair reduction results up to 55%. Cheaper compared to genuine lasers and are used more often in spas and clinics. This type of LHR equipment best applies to skin types I, II and III. For skin types IV to VI, reports have been reviewed to impose high risks for burns since it lacks the single concentrated wavelength precision of true lasers.

Alexandrite Laser Hair Removal

If you have darker hair color and lighter skin tones, then Alexandrite laser hair removal devices best suit you. Alexandrite lasers have a continuous wavelength of laser light that penetrates your skin at a total depth of 755nm. Having this assures you of a hair reduction rate of 65.6%. It is considered to be the most effective and fastest hair removal equipment. Alexander Lasers are recommended for skin types I, II and III only.

Diode Laser Hair Removal

Diode lasers are best for people who have between light to medium skin colors because of their longer wavelengths (depth of 810nm). This characteristic makes them suitable for treating unwanted hair to those with darker skin. Diode LHR assures you of a reduction rate of 46.9%. Skin type candidates are types I, II, III, IV and V.

Nd: YAG Laser Hair Removal

Having longer wavelengths, Nd: YAG lasers can penetrate the skin at a depth of 1064nm. This makes it safe and effective for people who possess darker skin tones, and can assure a reduction rate of 42.4%. Applicable to all skin types but ideal results have not been obtained with fine, light or white hair. May cause pain in but provides lasting hair removal results.

Home Laser Hair Removal

These are smaller machines you can use at home to get those unwanted hair patches cleared up. They are not as strong as those mentioned above therefore usage has to be repeated to achieve results.
